Utah's Karl Malone and John Stockton led the West to a 143-134 victory at the Astrodome before an All-Star Game record crowd of 44,735. Malone's 28 points and 9 rebounds enabled him to capture the Most Valuable Player Award. Stockton, taking over as the West's floor leader for the injured Magic Johnson, finished with 11 points, 5 steals, and 17 assists, including an All-Star Game record 9 in a single quarter.
Chicago's Michael Jordan scored 28 points for the East, while Seattle's Dale Ellis tallied 27 for the West. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson's replacement on the West roster, played in a record 18th and final All-Star Game.
